Goodbyes

Most people say that "goodbyes" are never easy. I can definitely agree with that! My family knows all-too-well how hard they are. In fact, I've been saying goodbye for years, and it's never fun. Also, people that say "it gets easier" are LIARS! Scott and I started dating long distance in 2007. We were constantly saying goodbye in airports, and it ALWAYS sucked! When we moved to Canada in 2009, we had to say the hardest goodbye ever. I never imagined I would be 2,000 miles from all my family. Each time we are able to see my family, we all dread the goodbye at the end of the visit.

Tomorrow, we say goodbye again. After 3.5 weeks of holidays with my family, we are flying from Atlanta to Orlando, and then fly from Orlando back to Canada on Wednesday.  The end of a long trip always leaves mixed feelings for me. Sad to once again say goodbye. Eager to get back home and "get back on track".  (P.S. For me, the word "home" is used very loosely these days. I've learned that "home" is just where we are for the moment. We have a home in Canada, but Georgia will ALWAYS be home to me.)

One thing that I've FINALLY learned from all of this. FAITH. I mean really, truly believing that you are where God wants you to be FOR NOW. It's taken me 2.5 years to understand and accept this, but I've never felt peace like this before. I've never fully been able to be CONTENT in the moment-even being in a different country than the rest of my family. I trust God has a plan for my family, and I have finally chosen to yield to HIS plan. That's a scary thing, let me tell you! Of course, this is a daily practice, and I sometimes get a little anxious about "what's next".

So, tomorrow we say goodbye again. Thursday we'll be back in Canada. It usually only takes me a few days before I'm planning and dreaming about our next visit South! This time, I'm thankful for a few things that SHOULD help with the goodbyes. We're going home to a clean house. This makes all the difference in the world...to a woman anyway! Olivia is excited to see what Santa left for her at our house. We will be having Christmas with Scott's parents this weekend, so she'll be happy about that too. Also, Thursday is her birthday, and Friday, I'm the parent helper in her class on Friday. I've promised a special "birthday lunch" for her that day! These few things (I'm praying) will help to make our goodbye just a little easier.

  1. Oh Steph, I completely feel your pain here. Whoever created the saying "it gets easier" really is the lying because it is never ever easy to leave the people you love most. Even when you know you'll see them again. I'm so glad that you've yielded to His plan though, as hard as that can be at times. Its so much better to be in His will than in your own, which you know of course. Love you Mucho, lets plan a Skype date when you get home (and sorry I haven't returned your email yet). I'm praying for yalls trip home and getting re-adjusted!

Honoring God by Honoring Your Husband

While you’re dating someone, it’s easy to love the man you’re in a relationship with. You probably don’t notice all his flaws or the things that get under your skin and drive you insane.  You are probably blissfully unaware of how things, for many couples, will change once you exchange the rings. Once the “honeymoon” stage is over, reality sets in and then it starts.  It becomes harder to excuse certain behaviours or habits, harder to forgive, and sometimes even harder to love (in the form of a verb). Many wives begin to find themselves asking why they should honor their husband. Why should I forgive him over and over? Why should I boast about him in front of my friends? Why should I overlook his flaws and focus on the good? The answer becomes, “because that is what God does”.  The questions in our mind about whether or not to honor, respect, and submit to our husband becomes a question of whether or not we’re going to honor, respect, and submit to Jesus Christ. Surprise Birthday Weekend!

Many of you know that I received the BEST surprise this past Friday on my birthday. My mom and husband worked together for weeks planning a surprise trip to Canada. Not only was I surprised, but Olivia and Judah were surprised too! It was the best 4 days I've had in forever. Here's how it went down. Friday, like any other day, I dropped Olivia off at school, and went out to run some errands. Later that afternoon I took Judah with me to the grocery store, and when I got home Scott was already home. He had a few meetings during the day, so I asked him to come home early, so I wasn't surprised to see his car in the garage. However, when I walked into our house he almost ran into me coming out. He seemed shocked to see me, and then had this suspicious look on his face. I didn't think too much of it, and just walked into the house. I was carrying Judah though, and when he got far enough into our laundry room where he could see around the corner, he starting leaning out of...

Integrity

I'm going to do my best to write this post in love and not condemnation or criticism. I pray that my heart on this issue will be evident and not misunderstood for something else. I heard a great pastor say about a week ago while he was presenting the congregation with an uncomfortable message "receive this in love". I thought, "what a great way to say what you really think and get away with it b/c you've given the 'love' disclaimer!" But seriously, this has been on my heart for about a year now. I don't know if it's been God that's brought it further and further to the front of my mind in the last month or what, but I felt the need to share. So, receive this in love! Integrity. When most people hear this word they automatically think of the personal meaning of the word. If someone has integrity they have moral or ethical principles.  A more corporate definition of the word as it pertains to the Church or a church ministry is "the s...
