I read a fantastic article on the phenomenon of "50 Shades of Gray" and "Magic Mike". I share the same disbelief that women everywhere that claim to follow Christ would indulge in these types of entertainment. There seems to be this sort of movement of women saying, "if men are allowed, so are we!", instead of standing against the very things that breaks the heart of God. Sure, men all over the world have become ensnared in the tangled web of pornography. Do I think that's any more wrong than women being involved in the same thing? No, of course not. I do know though, that because of the incredibly high demand for pornography, young women and even girls are being enslaved to supply that very demand. If we choose to begin a new revolution of sex-for-sale with women in mind, are we going to be OK when the same number of boys end up trapped across the earth as there are girls because of our sinful means of entertainment? That's the reality of this situation. I have a young daughter so I fight for justice for these young girls. I'm constantly thinking about how broken I would be if she were enslaved. At the same time though, I have a baby boy, and I can tell you now if he was harmed in any way, you wouldn't want to see the mama bear that I turn in to. We just cannot let ourselves be entertained by the very sins that sent Jesus to the cross.
Yes, ladies, it IS sin. Adultery is a sin. Matthew 5:28 says, "But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust in his eye has already committed adultery with her in his heart." This goes for us too, ladies. Lust is defined in the Bible as an inordinate (excessive) desire or craving. I'm going to guess that if you're seeing the movie "Magic Mike" for the third time you've begun to crave it. Likewise, if you're flying through chapter after chapter, staying up all hours of the night to read "50 Shades of Gray", there's probably some lusting going on there.
Instead of fostering the "equal rights" mentality on this issue, why aren't more women, or more importantly, churches, taking a stand against it? God has called us to be in the world, but not of the world. Romans 12:2 says, "Do not copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect his will really is." The devil loves nothing more than for the daughters of the King of Kings to become tangled up in this kind of evil. C'mon ladies, the saying, "everyone is doing it" is so out of style.
Think it's no big deal? These are his schemes and his battle plan. We are in a war, and we give new strength and weapons to the enemy when we willingly play alongside him in his games. Ephesians 6:12 says, "For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against the evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against those mighty powers of darkness who rule this world, and against wicked spirits in the heavenly realms." We are not just taking a stand against Hollywood, but against the evil forces behind the secular world. Verse 13 goes on to say, "Use every piece of God's armor to resist the enemy in the time of evil, so that after the battle you will be standing firm." We need to put on the belt of TRUTH, the breastplate of RIGHTEOUSNESS, sandals of PEACE, the shield of FAITH, the helmet of SALVATION, and wield the sword of the SPIRIT (God's Word). That means STANDING UP AGAINST things of this nature and speaking the TRUTH about God's Word on these issues. Sure, it won't be popular, but we aren't called to be man-pleasers. I don't know about you, but I don't want to spend my life trying to please man and then stand before my Creator to find out that I wasn't pleasing to Him in the least. You cannot be a man-pleaser AND a God-pleaser.
Anyway, those are just a few of my thoughts. I would encourage you to read this post here. Also, link to the original source and read what she has to say! Bold as a lioness, she is!
